CHAPEL FURNISHINGS
School Sisters of Notre Dame
Ornamental brass motifs from the former chapel were incorporated into the design of the altar, ambo and tabernacle in respect of what had been before, while giving a vitality and elegance to the new.
The wheat motif on the four sides of the altar came from the former communion railing. The marble inlay in the top came from the former altar. When design elements such as these can be incorporated into a renovation, the change is often better accepted by the members of the congregation. The dark walnut wood contrasting with the light red oak reaches upward in the center, then curves upward suggesting both a chalice and arms raised up in praise.
Three crosses from the former reredos form the center design of the ambo. Notice the crosses repeated on the doors. Such repetition has a pleasing, calming effect.
A marble bowl holds living water in this font.
